The Cadre

When I ask, "what do I need on my spiritual journey to feel supported?" I return again and again to the idea of a cadre.

A cadre: surrounded by support.

The web that holds me.

The idea of the reclusive mystic is a spiritual archetype that, for some reason, has an outsized presence in our imagination. The work of the soul can be said to be a solo operation, and it’s in many ways true. no one can do the inner work for you. In many ways, we are alone. Any long, arduous journey is better taken with a fellowship. Especially one that’s never-ending, replete with trials, and obscure in nature.

The voice of Hadit, in the book of the law – I’ve always liked this, because it complicates our ideas about what The Hermit - the card in the Major Arcana that represents the spiritual journey of the initiate - can be:

“…there are my friends who be hermits. Now think not to find them in the forest or on the mountain; but in beds of purple, caressed by magnificent beasts of women with large limbs, and fire and light in their eyes, and masses of flaming hair about them; there shall ye find them.”

Astrologically, my medium coeli is in the 11th house. That mean the peak of my personal sky is the place where spirits gather. The people are the point. The spirits are the point, and together we gather in the House of Good Spirit.

How many times has the perfect synchronicity come to you from the mouth of another. How many times has the magic you prayed for been delivered through the hands of a friend or a lover?

Magic is a team sport. Independence is an illusion. You are a star in the company of stars.
